Chip & Seal

Chip & Seal Asphalt Surface Treatment For Santa Clara And Surrounding Areas

Asphalt & Beyond is one of a just a few California pavement contractors who reputably installs chip seal asphalt. Chip Seal is also known as “asphalt surface treatment,” and it is a cost-effective way to achieve a new driving surface that will last for several years. Chip and Seal surface treatments are usually used on roadways with low traffic volume.

Our Chip Seal Process

Chip & Seal involves combining 1 or more layers of asphalt with 1 or more layers of aggregate. A thin layer of liquid asphalt is sprayed down in front of a chip (gravel) spreader. Rollers are then used to seat the aggregate. Excess gravel is swept up typically 2 weeks after the process is complete.

Chip seal can only be implemented over existing gravel surfaces, chip sealed surfaces, or unsealed asphalt. If the asphalt surface has previously been sealed, it cannot be chip sealed. In order to use the chip seal process, the pores of the underlying asphalt surface cannot have been previously sealed.
